Data Governance Lead

The opportunity

An exclusive Data Governance Lead contract with a global R&D-led organisation at a pivotal point in their data transformation. If you have deep federated governance expertise in regulated environments and the change leadership to bring multiple scientific functions on board, this engagement needs to move immediately.

What you'll be doing as a Data Governance Lead

• Designing the federated Hub-Spoke governance operating model, including RACI, decision rights, and escalation paths across 12+ R&D functions
• Developing a data lifecycle framework aligned to DAMA, FAIR, and appropriate data quality and integrity standards, mapped across core R&D data domains
• Validating the model with 3-4 pilot spoke functions, running current-state assessments and tailored governance design per function
• Building governance playbooks, stewardship frameworks, data quality KPIs, lineage standards, and a Data Governance Council charter
• Leading stakeholder engagement and co-design workshops across a complex multi-function environment
• Delivering a 2027 scaling roadmap and BAU transition plan for the internal team

What we're looking for from the Data Governance Lead

• Proven experience designing federated data governance models: Hub-Spoke architecture, decision rights, RACI frameworks
• Applied knowledge of DAMA, FAIR, and data quality and integrity frameworks in complex, multi-function R&D environments
• Experience operating under GDPR or equivalent compliance frameworks in a regulated setting
• Strong change management capability: stakeholder engagement, training design, and adoption metrics
• Ability to coach stewardship behaviours into non-DG functions at pace
• Programme design and workstream orchestration at senior level

Qualifications

• Relevant data governance qualification or equivalent practical experience (CDMP or similar)
• Background in a regulated R&D or scientific environment preferred
