AI and Agentic Technical Lead | Enterprise AI
Location: UK remote, with occasional travel to London HQ
Engagement: Permanent
Package: Up to £120,000 base + bonus
Sponsorship: Unable to provide sponsorship for this position.
A rare seat for an AI practitioner who would rather set the technical bar than write the code. After a period of proving where AI can move the needle, a global enterprise now needs someone to make sure the build is sound, the vendors are honest, and the value actually lands.
About the opportunity
A large, well-established organisation with a global footprint across many industries. It recently established a dedicated AI function to find and scale the opportunities that matter most, and it is now shifting from experimentation into delivery. You would join a deliberately small senior team that has both the mandate and the air cover to influence how AI gets built across the group.
What you'll be doing
- Owning the technical quality bar across a portfolio of AI and agentic initiatives, from first scoping through to live deployment.
- Holding delivery partners to account, pressure-testing their designs, their numbers and their claims so the business buys outcomes rather than slideware.
- Calling feasibility early, where data, integration and cost realities decide whether a use case is worth pursuing.
- Setting the standards and evaluation methods that keep solutions reliable, safe and fit for purpose as they scale.
- Guiding how agentic systems get built, from tool use and orchestration through to the multi-step workflows the business is starting to rely on.
- Working shoulder to shoulder with IT, Cyber and Data, and turning technical risk into plain-English calls for senior decision-makers.
What we're looking for
- Six to ten years building real AI/ML, with the scars to prove you have taken work from prototype into production inside a large organisation.
- The judgement to assess an architecture or delivery plan on its merits without building it yourself, and to weigh build, buy or partner honestly.
- Practical, hands-on exposure to LLMs such as OpenAI or Azure OpenAI, a clear view of where retrieval-based approaches tend to break, and real experience with agentic patterns. This is a young field, so we value genuine, current hands-on work over overclaiming.
- An instinct for how AI lands in a messy enterprise, across APIs, pipelines, deployment and monitoring, and data that is rarely as clean as anyone hoped.
- Enough Python to get under the bonnet and check the work, plus a grounded sense of which modelling techniques suit which problem.
- The presence to challenge a vendor and reassure a leadership team in the same afternoon, and the temperament to thrive while the brief is still taking shape.
Qualifications
- A track record of production AI/ML in a complex organisation; degree-level education or equivalent real-world experience.
- Helpful extras: cloud AI platforms such as Azure ML, AWS or GCP, exposure to AI governance or risk, and hands-on multi-agent work.
Why join?
- Real authority. You set the technical direction and flag what will not work, rather than waiting for permission.
- Proximity to the decisions. A small team, senior sponsorship, and a direct line into where the calls get made.
- Frontier work. GenAI and agentic systems at enterprise scale, with the chance to write the playbook others follow.
- Remote-first in the UK, backed by the reach and stability of a global business.
